Morimoto, Kikuo Biography

Since 1971, Mr. Kikuo Morimoto worked with handpainted Yuzen Kimono in Kyotoas an artisan of dyeing. He moved to Thailand in 1983, teaching people inthe rural communities the techniques of how to naturally dye and hand wovencloth.

After working as a consultant for weaving project of UNESCO Cambodia in1995, he's started up on his own a project to restore silkworm culture ofyellow cocoons in a village in Cambodia. In 1996, he established Institutefor Khmer Traditional Textiles to restore and revitalize traditionalCambodian textiles. Since 2000, he started work-shop for teachingtraditional weaving and dyeing techniques to young women in Siem Reap.
