Reviving Silk Textile Traditions in Cambodia

Kikuo Morimoto, founder of the Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles in Siem Reap, Cambodia, will introduce the inspiring work of the nearly four hundred women and men engaged in the institute ’ s project of reviving the authentic processes of dyeing and weaving silk textiles. Morimoto will use slides and film to show the transformation of golden silkworm cocoons into handwoven silk fabrics colored with radiant natural dyes and patterned with hand-tied ikat designs.
The talk accompanies a special sale of the institute's textiles. November 1, 12 pm - 5 pm, November 2 and 3, 10 am - 5 pm, in the Freer Conference Room.
