Cambodian Natural Indigo dyeing

Before 1970 Cambodia has very popular for Indigo dyeing. But they lost those experience from villages in the civil war time.

IKTT try to find some indigo tree at Takeo or Kampot province. In the area indigo tree become wild, we can get seed from those tree and plant it at our PWF farm.

IKTT had many different research that time about Cambodian textile, but about indigo dyeing was difficult to find who have experience to do. In 1996, by chance I met one old guy at village near Phnom Penh, he is Indigo paste producer and seller before 1970.

Ms.Sawako TAMURA, she is Japanese weaving expert, especially indigo dyeing know how well. She and IKTT started Revival project for Indigo dyeing four years ago, her teach and training to IKTT dyeing group staff.

We study about natural dyeing it must have slow and slow. If we dyeing quickly color also lost quickly. For indigo tree need good soil for growing tree and get good color. We need have good harmony with natural.

This time, Ms.Sawako to teach IKTT staff already and they make indigo paste them-self and dyeing cotton yarn successfully.
This organic cotton also IKTT revival at PWF farm with hand spinning.

Thanks a lot to Ms.Sawako from IKTT.
